- Getting into Galicia:
–> Fly or rail into Santiago de Compostela
Rail or Bus: There is a high speed train from Madrid that costs only around 50 Euros if you book in advance. Buses arrive from anywhere.
Flights: Most flights depending where you are would probably require 2 legs with mosth flights coming through major Spanish Airports like Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia or Mallorca. However Ryanair also flies via London and Dublin. Here is some more specific infos on low cost airlines:
RYANAIR: Memmingen to Santiago is operating between March 31 and Oktober 2024 with flight flights departing thursdays and sundays with fares starting at 25 Euros
Vueling (IBERIA): Low cost airline of IBERIA – Spanish national airline operates most flights at the airport they depart to Madrid 28 times a week and also fly to every major city including daily flight to the Canary Island of Tenerife (North and South).
Alternative airports include A Coruña, Vigo and Porto – all of which you will take 2-3 hours to get to Santiago from – so you might as well fly into Madrid and take a connecting flight or train there. - Getting to the house:
Car rental: Car rental is very convenient and very cheap in low season which is September to June, Car rental companies are all situated inside the terminal with cars parked inside the airport on underground levels. Cars cost around 10-30 Euros per. Ride from the airport is 75 minutes – 30 minutes on the highway and another 45 minutes along the sunning seaside of the region.
Bus ride: 2,5 hours comfortable ride in air conditioned buses
1. The line 6 bus runs from Santiago de Compostela Airport to the city centre daily about every 20 minutes from 07:00 to 00:30. The one-way ticket cost is just €1 and the journey time will be around 30 minutes.
2. Lunch/Rest in Santiago. As you arrive at the bus/train station you might have some time to kill before you get on the final bus. There is a cafe right inside the bus terminal and various great cafés and restaurants close
3. Bus Ride from Santiago Bus Station to our house is leaving 5 times a day at 09:00, 10:00, 13:00, 17:00, 18:30,Destination to LIRA (less than 2h ride for 7 Euros).
4. Getting out in Lira it is a short 200 meter walk to the house along a paved road so you can pull your trolley.
Taxi: Taxi from the airport should be around 100-150 Euros. We might be able to get a local to pick you up for around 60 Euros on request.
